EDUC 5243 Week 1 Blog Assignment: Technology Integration Framework

 

            The Triple E technology framework is an option that my school district can use to guide and support technology usage and practices based on the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and the evaluation tools for teachers.

            This framework is a research-based technology guideline for K -12 educators to use to evaluate how to effectively incorporate digital tools in the planning phase of lesson development, execution of the lesson, and the learning process to maximize students' opportunities to achieve the learning objectives or learning goals of a lesson thus making the learning experience authentic and applicable beyond the mere classroom. The Triple E Framework comprises of three main components namely, Engagement, Enhancement, and Extension which are componential measuring factors to consider when integrating digital tools to enhance students learning.  Below is the Triple E Framework diagram that further outlines the meaning of the three Es.

In the school district where I work, the technology initiatives are aligned and congruent with the Triple E Framework in that the district’s hallmark is to provide equal opportunities for students to access technological tools and digital applications that educators engage students in the learning process in meaningful ways. Digital resources are available to engage students individually and collaboratively with different content areas of learning as they delve deeper into achieving their learning goals. As a result of these meaningful integrations of infusing technologies with content instructions, students not only achieve learning goals but are also enabled to take ownership of their learning, hence, classroom management is alleviated. 

The multiple formats of digital tools used to execute instructions and by the students enhance their abilities to be enthused about their learning experience as they interact with differentiated content and are given opportunities with a variety of options to aid in their learning and extend their comprehension. Educators also target content with the integration of these digital tools that allow students to make real-world connections and extend learning on a global scale.

Over the years, educators have had some challenges as it relates to having students be the consumers of technologies rather than them being consumed by technologies and how to integrate them effectively in the learning process that will bring forth results hence utilizing the Triple E model format of technology usages will provide engagement, enhancement and extension of content materials as students explore their learning opportunities. This technology integration framework is relevant to be used by educators to make learning for students an active approach, authentic, and applicable. 

The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards also integrate with the Kolb Triple E framework. ISTE students standards 1.6.c Creative Communicator addresses students utilizing technological resources to present learned content to their peers to demonstrate their understanding. This standard connects with the Triple E enhancement components that outline using digital tools to differentiate instructions by ensuring students achieve their learning goals irrespective of their abilities.  

ISTE student standards 1.7.a and 1.7.b Global Collaborator addresses students using different modes of digital tools to collaborate with students from varying backgrounds in sharing their views and knowledge of content materials. These standards aligned with the extension component of the Triple E model that enables students to use different digital resources to engage in learning with their peers and other resource personnel by making real-world connections and learning from several virtual platforms.

Educators, ISTE standards 2.5. a Designer addresses educators planning differentiated instructions that students can apply technology to show learning taking place in a variety of ways. Enhancement is the Triple E component that is derived from this standard.

The Danielson Framework Teaching evaluation tool which is used by the district is aligned with the Triple E model as it focuses on assessing the educators' abilities to use digital resources to engage, enhance, and extend students' learning outcomes. During instruction delivery, the evaluator notes if technology tools are used to engage students in the content, and the use of collaborative efforts in groups to work on assigned tasks.  Incorporating digital tools that foster differentiation, and create individualized activities that cater to the students' levels and interests that will allow students to explore and enhance their learning goals.  Educators are also assessed based on having the students making real-world connections with technology and utilize these tools in ways that provide an extension to be used beyond the classroom.

The Triple E model is one of the technology integration frameworks that Educators can incorporate into the teaching and learning experience that will engage the diverse student population to achieve maximum learning experiences for all content areas, thus preparing the future generation to be equipped to function effectively in this digital era.
